Validate before you build: lessons from Lean Startup

Most new ventures fail because nobody needs what they build. Here is how I test ideas cheaply before investing in them.

The most expensive mistake in entrepreneurship is building something nobody wants. Lean Startup gives us a simple remedy: treat every idea as a set of assumptions, and test the riskiest one first.

In practice that means talking to customers before writing code, sketching before designing and selling before producing. A landing page, a clickable prototype or ten honest interviews can tell you more than six months of development.

The key is to decide in advance what result would prove you wrong. Without that, every experiment becomes confirmation instead of learning.

Validation is not a phase you finish. It is a habit that keeps a venture honest as it grows.
